interactive musical composition

Designed to complement existing activities at the Philharmonie de Paris, the experience offered by the Philharmonie des Enfants places young visitors in a fresh position of self-discovery, without a guide. The freedom given to children encourages them to “do it themselves” and risk experimentation. The interactive installations are designed to be handled instinctively by children. They are also designed to be inclusive of all disabilities.

The Compositrain. This unusual train track allows children to compose a piece of music without the need for a score. The composer reads the children’s compositions, based on a grammar of shapes and colors. This large circuit is animated by two trains that act as playheads. Four play stations are arranged around the tracks. They feature multi-sided rollers that children rotate to modify the melodic or rhythmic structure of their composition. The combinations are endless! Each time the train passes the play station, it reads out the chosen motifs and reveals the composition.
